The girls are officially two weeks old today (or 37 3/7 gestational weeks). We have been home 1.5 weeks with them now and it feels like only a few days have gone by. We have had our great days and some not so great days (thanks to my surging hormone levels…). As a birthday present to me… the girls both decided to breast feed on their own today (all day!!). No shields, no bottles, no major meltdowns. Good ole fashion breast feeding. I am swelling with pride and accomplishment.

Jason and I have worked out a schedule for night feedings (still bottle feedings but NO formula needed anymore). I head for bed around 930 and sleep until the 2am feedings. Jason does the 10-130 feedings and then sleeps until he gets up for work. We both slept until 845 this morning.

Jason has actually played 18 holes of golf (for his birthday) and went to the driving range today. I have been to the hair salon / therapy office (thanks Jenny!!) for an hour.

My mother (aka laundry fairy, coffee fairy, vacuum fairy) leaves on Monday and it feels like ripping off a band aid… hopefully we can keep our heads above water.

More pictures to come (we swear!!)

This is a very important week for me. We are exactly 24 weeks today and the girls are considered “viable” at this point. Here is what is going on inside the bump:

Bring on the bulk! Baby gains about 6 ounces this week. The weight is in muscle, bone mass and organs.

Their bodies begins to fill out with their appearances increasingly becoming more like a newborn.

Taste buds begin to form. If mom drinks something strange or bitter, baby may be observed showing his distaste.

Little creases have appeared on their palms. The muscular coordination of their hands has improved as they sucks their thumbs.

Over the next seven days the sweat glands will be forming in the skin.

Their lungs are developing “branches” of the respiratory “tree” and cells that produce surfactant, a substance that helps the air sacs inflate easily.

This week your baby is officially considered viable.

Each Baby weighs 1.3 pound (600gm) and is 11.8 inches (30cm) long — almost the length of a ruler!

Our next OBGYN appointment is on Friday. We have a “growth” ultrasound to make sure the girls continue to grow and a healthy rate… more pictures to follow…

All our love,

Steph
