The girls impressed their MD today at their 4mo check up. Ava was 12lb 15oz and Emilie was 11lb 6oz. They are not HUGE babies but well within normal ranges… They also had three more shots which made both girls really really sad. They recovered well from them however had a major meltdown later in the afternoon. Those cries go down in history as the most god awful cries I have ever experienced.

ps- On night 5 of our sleep training both girls slept from 10pm-6am… progress!!

The girls had their two month check up yesterday (shots and all!)

The official stats are as follows:

Ava
height – 22 inches (45 percentile)
weight – 10 lb 4oz (45 percentile)
head – 15 inches (30 percentile)

Emilie
height – 21 1/4 inches (15 percentile)
weight – 8lb 7oz (5 percentile)
head – 14 1/8 (less than 3rd percentile)

As you can see Emilie is our little peanut.

Both girls had three of their vaccines yesterday. Ava had just settled down on the exam table and was dozing off when the nurse pinched her chubby little thigh and poked her with the needle. She got this “what the hell” look on her face, turned bright red, and screamed her head off. I thought my heart was going to break. Emilie turned various shades of purple, violet, and red after her shots… my poor babies. I think Jason will have to go alone to the next round… I don’t think I can take it again. The rest of the afternoon both girls were really fussy and had long bouts of crying… the kind of crying that left them breathless and sweaty. I ended up napping with both of them for most of the afternoon.

Today, both girls woke up in good spirits…smiling and laughing in their play gyms… thank god. No harm. No foul…

OUUUUCH… I just got home from the ortho-hand specialist to “cure” my pregnancy induced carpal tunnel. I just had two of the largest needles inject steroids into both of my wrists… the doctor claimed to use some sort of numbing aerosol spray as he was placing the needles but I swear, I didn’t feel any numbing agent being used… I think it was for show. My wrists currently feel worse than when I got there but the doctor swears it will “cure” the pain permanently (95% of the time). Ohh the good times just keep on coming from this pregnancy.

On another note, our good friends Kelly and Jens delivered their twins this morning at 7:18 and 7:19… we are so excited to meet our girls’ new playmates.

Today Ava weighed in at 8lbs!!! Emilie was 6lb 8oz. Both are putting on weight steadily…

Ava had a cranial evaluation today to assess a slight deformity of one of her sutures on the right side. They say that this is due to her positioning in the womb (15+ weeks against my pelvis). She favors the right side and it is putting pressure on her skull. The therapist gave us exercises and positioning to do at home to correct her head shape. We hope it corrects naturally.

Tandem feeding attempts have been going well. We accomplished three yesterday and one today. Sorry the pictures are too graphic to post =)

Hello everyone…

I wanted to let all of you know that our twins arrived on Saturday July 19th.

Baby “A” was born first (screaming) at 1145 weighing 5lbs and 11oz / 18 inches long. She is now known as Ava Cathryn Carter.

Baby “B” was born next (and much more mellow) at 1146 weighing 4lb and 13oz / 17 3/4 long and is now known as Emilie Maire Carter

Both babies were born healthy and bypassed both the NICU and actually didn’t even need a puff of oxygen at birth. I am recovering from the c section well and feel great. I am on antibiotics for a temperature that spiked yesterday for an unknown reason but otherwise doing well.

We were discharged today and are home getting to know each other and trying to figure each other out. We are totally in love with the girls. Ava looks like a Shar pei puppy and Emilie grunts like a pug puppy… they are hysterical!!

The Girls are a week old and doing so well at home. We are getting into the groove of parenting with the help of my mother and mother in law. Sleep is happening (not always at night) and we are showered most days (however, I forgot to brush my teeth and put on deodorant)….

More to come in the following days.
Stephanie
(no longer pregnant)
