We went to our MD appointment yesterday and were told that our complications have resolved or are under control. They are cutting my medications in half and after seven days of strict bed rest they are moving me to “modified bed rest”.

Our ultrasound showed both girls growing steadily. Based on their measurements they thought they weighed about 4lbs each. This might be slightly inflated (not an exact science) but shows that they have put on almost two pounds in four weeks. Our OBGYN feels this experience will just be a little bump in the road (so to speak…) and will not really end up being much of anything.

As we learned, things can change very, very quickly and are grateful for every day they stay put and “cook”. Each day inside me means 1-2 days less in the NICU…

Well it has been an eventful week. On Monday and Tuesday we were in our OBGYN’s office to run some tests for preterm labor. I was admitted to Scripps Memorial Hospital on Tuesday afternoon for monitoring and medications. We were discharged home on Thursday with orders for strict bed rest and medications to control the contractions. You cannot even imagine how little fun bed rest is during a heat wave.

Today is Day 4 of the imprisonment and we are hanging in there. Jason has been amazing in his dedication to my needs, comfort, and sanity…

We will keep everyone posted as this process progresses.

I just got home from our MD appointment and everything continues status quo. I am measuring 38-39 weeks which might explain a lot of my discomforts. I am grateful and blessed to still be working and vertical (although my MD would like for me not to be). I have eight more shifts to complete (over a three week span). I feel like the little engine that could…. “I think I can, I think I can”.

Our next appointment and ultrasound is in two weeks. More pictures of the girls to come (if they comply).

The first 4D ultrasound was a bust – both babies were sleeping and covering their faces with either umbilical cords or their arms. The ultrasound folks were nice enough to let us come back for a second round, free of charge.

Stephanie was optimistic that we’d see some movement and better pictures of their faces because they were freaking out inside of her all day long. But, it turns out that they just tired themselves out so they slept through the entire second ultrasound. We still were able to get a few good shots of their faces and some great video of Baby B hiccuping and both babies yawning. Here’s what to look for:

  • 0:42 – Baby A’s still a girl!
  • 1:01 – Baby A’s profile and nose
  • 1:31 – Baby A’s umbilical cord stacked on top of her face
  • 2:00 – A 3D image of Baby A’s face
  • 3:14 – Great video of Baby B with hiccups
  • 4:01 – Baby B’s arm and hand covering her face
  • 4:54 – Baby B’s foot
  • 6:25 – Baby B’s butt (still having hiccups) sitting on top of Baby A’s head
  • 7:08 – Baby B’s foot in front of Baby A’s face
  • 7:43 – A 2D view of Baby A’s face
  • 9:50 – The ultrasound tech pushing on Baby B on the right, trying to get her to move her arm
  • 10:26 – Baby B mid yawn, with tongue sticking out
  • 11:23 – Baby B’s face with arm in front
  • 13:07 – From left to right, Baby B’s bent knee, arm, and face
  • 15:50 – Same as above
  • 16:11 – Baby A’s head pushing on Stephanie’s bladder to the right
  • 16:44 – A practice breath or yawn from Baby A
  • 18:06 – Baby B’s face
  • 20:33 – Baby B’s heartbeat
  • 21:33 – Baby B’s four fingers

I have finally passed my glucose testing. I failed the first one hour test… my blood sugar was 145 (with the cut off being 140)… I had to do a fasting three hour test on Monday. I was a human pin cushion for four hours. My OB RN called yesterday to tell us that the results were normal. She suspects my first failure had more to do with my diet the days leading up to the test… sorry Jens and Kelly… I have to say it might have been the Nutella crepes we ate the night before the test… however, they were worth every single bite…

On the less positive side, I have developed pregnancy induced carpal tunnel in both of my wrists. With no apparent cure or remedy I am told this is something that will “resolve with delivery”… in two months!!!

I have three more weeks of work to get through and my OB feels like this will most certainly happen… I have to work until 07/03 to qualify for FMLA benefits. Today is my last day working for this week!! Only three more to go!!
